Complex Numbers
Fundamentals
i = √−1
i2 = −1
( i ) Is an imaginary number made up to solve problems like; x2 = −25
Complex Numbers
A complex number is a number with a real part and an imaginary part E.G.
4 + 5i
Complex numbers are not allowed to be in the denominator of a fraction just like radicals are not allowed
Complex Conjugate
The complex conjugate works just like the conjugate of a radical, and by multiplying a fraction containing a complex number by the complex conjugate, you can eliminate the complex number in the denominator E.G.
3 + 2i ⇢ complex conjugate = 3 − 2i
10i ⇢ complex conjugate = −10i
