The Maclauren Series & Approximation
The Maclauren series can be used to approximate a function, with more successive terms improving the accuracy of the approximation.
Approximation is where we take a continuous function such as cos x, and break it up into a polynomial (called descretisation) which accurately approximates the function.
This is because computers cannot deal with continuous functions like cos x, and so the function must be descretised by finding an approximation of the function as above.
When working on a Maclauren series problem, the first step is to write down a small table with the function and its derivatives listed on the left and then the function and its derivatives evaluated at zero on the right.
