Radioactive Decay
Nt = N0e-λt
Nt = amount of radioactivity, or number of undecayed nuclei, or the mass of the element remaining after time t.
N0 = initial amount of the above quantity.
λ = the decay constant.
t = time
e = the number e.
Calculating the Decay Constant (λ)
λ = loge 2 / half-life (½t)
UNITS
The unit for the decay constant is the reciprocal of the unit used for the half-life (E.G. yr-1, days-1, s-1)
