For a simple RC filter circuit, the equation for frequency is:
Fc = (2πRC)-1
- Fc = Cutoff frequency (Hz / Rad s-1)
- R = Resistance (Ohms)
- C = capacitance (F)
For a 2nd order cascade filter with two identical RC circuits connected together use:
Fc = 1 / 2π√(R1C1R2C2)
Gain:
G = 1 / √1 + (ωRC)2
Gain dB:
GdB = 20log10(gain)
Bode plot:
- After the cut-off frequency (Fc), the signal amplitude drops by -20dB per decade.
