Cartesian Geometry – summary of formulae
If you have two points : A = (x1, y1) & B = (x2, y2)
- Gradient of AB (slope formula) = y2 − y1 / x2 − x1
- Equation of AB (point slope formula) = y − y1 = m (x − x1)
- Midpoint of AB = (x, y); x = ((x1 + x2) / 2) &: y = ((y1 + y2) / 2)
- When two lines are perpendicular : m1 × m2 = −1
- When two lines are parallel : m1 = m2
- Length of line AB = √(x2 − x1)2 + (y2 − y1)2
