Differential Equations #1
Initial conditions are required to calculate a specific solution that doesn't involve ‘c’ constants.
General solutions contain unknown ‘c’ constants and have infinite solutions.
Seperation Of Variables
You can use this method if the equation is of the form:
dx/dt = f(x) ∗ g(t)
( E.G. a function times a function )
- Seperate the variables.
- Integrate both sides.
- Solve for the subject variable.
Note:
In order to solve the differential equation treat dx/dt as a 'fraction'.
Only works for 1st order differential equations.
Only works in the correct form shown i.e. a function multiplied by another function.
