SpaceX starship SN-15 - launch nominal!
2021-05-05
Starship SN-15 has underwent a successful test flight and performed a soft landing and is the first rocket to perform the flip and burn maneuver successfully. After a short flight to approximately 10km above the thick cloud bank the rocket slowed down, came to a hover, and then performed the controlled belly flopped back down through the air using the aerodynamic control surfaces. The rocket landed gently on its landing legs and could be seen standing vertical and stable once the clouds of dust had passed, fire suppression systems were activated to control a small fire around the bottom of the vehicle possibly a methane leak, but the fire was contained and starship proceeded to depressurise safely marking an incredible milestone in the history of SpaceX and reusable launch vehicle engineering.
