One number as a percentage of another:
First Number / Second Number × 100%
Percentage of a quantity:
Change the percentage to a fraction or a decimal and multiply by the quantity
E.G.
20% of £600 = 20/100 × £600 = £120
Calculate percentage increase or decrease:
Actual increase or decrease / Original value × 100%
E.G.
1450 to 1870 equals an increase of 420 so:
420 / 1450 × 100% = 29% ( increase of 29% )
Convert percentage to fraction:
Write the percentage as a fraction with a denominator of 100
E.G.
45% = 45/100 ( 9/20 )
Convert fraction to decimal:
Divide the numerator by the denominator
E.G.
45/100 ⇢ 45 ÷ 100 = 0.45
Convert fraction to percentage:
Multiply the fraction by 100%
E.G.
2/5 ⇢ 2/5 × 100% = ( 200/5 )% Which simplifies to = 40%
Convert decimal to percentage:
Multiply the decimal by 100%
E.G.
1.35 × 100% = 135%
